This week in Hereford
Welcome back! I hope that you all had a fantastic Easter break and spent lots of time with your friends and families and of course, eating lots of chocolate!
I can't believe that we are now into the Summer Term. The year has flown by! Year 2 will soon be making the transition into Key Stage 2.
This term we have lots of exciting things going on. Please ensure you look at the Summer Term letter that has been sent home today as this has information about experiences and trips, which need slips returning. It also tells you about the plans for the rest of the year, including Year 2 SATS and Year 2 Phonic Screening.
We begin new journeys in all areas this week...
In RE, we are exploring the value of 'Generosity' where we will be looking at the parable of 'The Widow's Mite.' We will be thinking about how we can show generosity in our lives and I encourage children to give examples from home. Please feel free to send in examples of this for us to celebrate. I have attached the Home Imaginor Sheet for you to explore with your children.
In Maths, we are beginning a unit of 2D shape. Year 1 children are going to be recongising squares, circles, triangles and rectangles as well as their properties. Lots of children will be challenged with application activities to deepen this understanding. Whilst Year 2 will also be completing this, they have additional 2D shapes to explore, including: pentagons, hexagons, heptagons and octogans.
In English we are moving onto story writing. We will be reading and retelling the story of Peace At Last by Jill Murphy. We will then box the story up into the correct order, comprehend the story and then write the sections.
In our Amberley Immersion Curriculum, we are moving onto Science - Materials and their Properties (Overview attached.) We will be going on a hunt to find different objects and discussing what they are made from, whilst classifying them into different groups. Please look at the suggested learning at home, which will support your child.
