This Week in Dexter Class

This week in Dexter Class, we are looking forward to a visit from Reverend John, who will be coming in to talk to us about his role as the vicar of our Parish. He will be talking, not only about what he does in preparation for, and during the services at the church, but also about his work within the community. We will also be finding out more about Holy Trinity Church in preparation for our visit next week, where we will be looking at the key features of a Christian church and making comparisons to other religious buildings.

In phonics, we will be learning alternative graphemes (ways of writing) for the sounds ph (f), oe (oa) and au (or), and will be learning to read the tricky words looked, called and asked. We will of course be spending time on our recall of the high frequency and tricky words we have already learned and will be combining them, and words containing our new graphemes in simple sentences. There has been a great deal of enjoyment from independent story writing recently and it has been wonderful to see how far the children have come since they first started in Dexter class. Thank you for your continued support with reading and practicing HFW at home - it really does make a massive difference!

In maths, we will be continuing our work on the composition of number by subitising small groups of objects within a larger set, and using our knowledge of bonds to find totals. We will also be using these facts to work out associated subtraction facts, and will also be looking at numerical patterns including odds and evens.

We are looking forward to welcoming you on Monday morning for our Magnificent Monday celebration, where you will be able to come to class between 8.45 and 9.30 to look at your children's books and talk about their learning with them.
