This week in Dexter class
Dexter class really enjoyed starting the week by celebrating World Book Day. The outfits were fantastic and based on stories which were both traditional or more contemporary. We are sharing our favourite stories and explaining what it is that we like about them to our friends. The children of Amberley School have a real love of reading and Dexter class are certainly no exception; their knowledge of what they have read (or have heard) is amazing and it is wonderful to see them using vocabulary during their play which is clearly influenced by the stories they know. Our traditional tale focus this week is The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We will be linking into our maths and science learning as we discuss shapes for building a bridge, and look at floating and sinking using trolls to demonstrate!
As part of our vision, we aim to encourage children to think about their influence on the wider world. This week, we are raising money for Waunifor Primary School in Kenya by donating a pound to dress up for World Book Day. Amberley is helping them by providing books and resources to support their learning. We will also be enjoying a cake or two when we support the cake sale arranged by a Y4 pupil. The money raised will be split between Waunifor and Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers.
