This week in Dexter Class

This week we are continuing with our literacy journey by writing the beginning, middle and end of We're Going on A Bear Hunt. The children are using their phonics knowledge to write sentences which retell this much-loved tale. We are focusing on composing, holding (remembering) and writing sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We will also complete a simple comprehension where we will work together to answer questions about the story. Everyone is really enjoying the story and all the activities that we have been doing alongside the story telling.

Today we visited the library where children have the opportunity to change their books and read new ones. It is one of our favourite times of the week and we thank Mrs Bayly for supporting the children when using our library. Please send back any books borrowed on a Tuesday morning ready for changing in the library in the afternoon.

In Maths we are continuing to work on recognising the number pattern beyond 10 by looking at simple place values by counting tens and ones. We are doing lots of practise on counting to twenty with accuracy and beyond, looking at missing numbers and we have also completed our Club Maths challenge to answer addition questions. We have used resources to help us when needed such as number lines, Numicon, ten frames and dienes. Children are getting used to seeing written ;number sentences' and being able to solve simple additions and subtractions.

We will be using some instruments on Thursday in order to compose music to accompany our retelling of We're Going on a Bear Hunt. We will also replant our bean plants into compost and hopefully enjoy some baking too.

In Art we will be learning about mixing colours based on a book by Herve Tullet called Mix it Up!

We are also looking forward to some yoga and gymnastics in PE where we will continue practising forward rolls and jumping/landing with balance and control.

Just a quick reminder to return consent slips for our trip to Robinswood HIll if you haven't done so already.

Also, I hope you will all be coming along to enjoy the Cow Hunt at the weekend, I'm hoping the sun will shine for us all.
