This week in Dexter Class

Welcome back to the Summer term. I hope that you all had a super Easter spending time with your friends and families and of course, enjoying an Easter egg or two!

The year is flying by and our Dexter reception class will soon be making the transition into Key Stage 1.

This term will be busy as usual and there are lots of exciting things going on including our annual Cow Hunt. Please ensure you look at the Summer Term letter that will be sent home in book bags this week.

.

In RE, we are exploring the value of 'Generosity' and thinking about how we can show generosity in our lives. As usual we encourage children to give examples of how they have demonstrated the values at home. Please feel free to add to Tapestry any examples of this for us to celebrate.

In Maths, we are looking at numbers beyond 10 using our existing knowledge to recognise patterns within the counting system. We will also be consolidating our work on number bonds and having fun completing our Club Maths challenges where we look to rapidly recall number bonds.

In Literacy, Language and Communication we are moving onto the story We're Going on a Bear Hunt. We will be reading and retelling the story using a story map. We will also combine music and role play activities to retell the story using sound and actions. We will get creative making some bear masks and dens. We will also be boxing the story up into the correct order using pictures and sentences to show our comprehension of the the story before rewriting sections of the story next week.

In Phonics we will be continuing with Phase 4 where we will focus on blending CVCC and CCVCC words and applying our learning to our reading and writing.

Let's hope the sun makes an appearance this week and please remember water bottles, coats and sun screen/hats as we liked to be prepared for all eventualities!
