PGL Diary

Greetings from a wet and windy Torquay!

We arrived safely on Monday, and had time to wander around Haldon Forest and take in the spectacular views on the way. Noah and Louis were fooled by Miss Cale into believing they were going on a 4 hour hike, so they were really relieved to be back on the coach by 3pm! Oliver, Finn and Rory were really interested in the quartz stones that they found on the walk, and managed to collect a few souvenirs.

The children were given a tour of the PGL site when we arrived, and the first big challenge was getting their luggage up far too many steps to their accommodation! This proved equally challenging for the staff and the children! Our first meal on site was lovely, with all the children filling their bellies, before they took part in a manic evening activity called Snap-shot, which allowed the children to burn off their energy and get to know the site. James clearly has huge reserves of energy, because he never stopped running! The children slept well but we had a lot of bleary eyes at the breakfast tables this morning!

Tuesday started with a team game called Splash, which involved the children completing challenges to earn material in order to protect a water balloon thrown off a height. Only one team successfully achieved this, but all of the children enjoyed the challenge. Adam had a permanent smile on his face during this activity, while Elsie was brilliant at memorising and demonstrating her team’s dance routines! A raucous rendition of Happy Birthday to Mia followed, who has had special treatment for the whole day! Giant Swing and Rifle shooting completed our morning. Gabe, Alice B and Tess managed to reach the top of the giant swing, showing great bravery, followed by Luna, Oliva and Fen, who wouldn’t be outdone by the others, although they screamed far louder!

Chloe managed to recruit a small army of pupils to help her terrorise Mr Beech by placing toy frogs everywhere he went: this is a hark back to last September’s PGL where she chased him with a live frog! Mr Beech is particularly nervous in case it happens again. In rifle shooting, both Will and Decca took to it really well, having a good eye and learning the technique really quickly.

Mrs Stevens, as we type, is currently having fun in the outdoor swimming pool, in the rain, with the children, and their shouts of joy are echoing all the way across the site!

Later today, we will take part in the Vertical Challenge, as well as the alternating groups completing the Giant Swing or Rifle shooting.

Behaviour is, as always, excellent, and we are extremely proud of how your children are getting on.
