This week in Hereford Class

We have had a fantastic start to the term! Year 1 have transitioned seamlessly and are enjoying their time learning the new routines and expectations in Hereford Class. Year 2 have stepped up and are being excellent role models supporting the new children.

This week in Maths, we are reading and writing numbers in both words and numerals. Year 1 will be doing this to 20 and Year 2, to 100. They will represent numbers in different ways, using dienes, partitioning and number lines.

In English, we are writing the numbered steps for our instructions. We are writing instructions to make sandwiches and brushing our teeth. Mrs Hamilton followed our re-ordered instructions last week and made a cheese and tomato sandwich for her 95-year-old Grandma. She really enjoyed it and luckily the instructions were in chronological order so she didn't try and eat it before it was made! Year 2 will be looking at the terms: adverbs of time; adverbs to show how and verbs this week so that we include this in our writing and Year 1 will be focusing on their use of finger spaces, capital letters and full stops.

Year 1 will continue their transition in the afternoons where they will have continuous provision in Dexter Class with Mrs Crampton and Mrs Smith. During this time, Year 2 will complete their second block of the Immersion Curriculum. This week we are learning all about 'Respecting Ourselves & Others' during our PSHE topic. The overview is attached with the skills and ideas to help with the learning at home. We look forward to our end of unit celebration where Year 3 and 4 will be coming in. We will share our learning with them, going through our books and all of the work we have completed.

A letter went home on Friday regarding a phonics evening. This will be held on Wednesday 28th September and is extremely beneficial for you to attend, especially parents of Year 1 children. Please return the slip to the office so that I am aware of how many parents will be attending.
