This week in Hereford Class

It was a pleasure to have the children back last week and we had great fun settling back into school life. This week we move towards a more structured timetable but with lots of fun and practical ideas. The children have enjoyed showing off their maths and rapid recall through lots of questions and games. We begin a unit on division this week where we will be using peas on plates (Y1) and arrays (Y2) and recognising the relationship between this and multiplication. In English we are moving onto story writing where we are looking at the traditional tale of The Three Little Pigs. We will be retelling the story using a story map and writing our own versions. We really enjoyed our prayer station day last week in RE and this week we will continue to look at the Easter Story and how eggs at Easter represent new life. The children are great at retelling the sections of the story from Jesus arriving in Jerusalem to visiting his friends before going to heaven.

In the Immersion Curriculum we have a 2 week block of Science - Materials. We are looking at items and discussing the material that they are made of. We launched this today by reading several clues which could be found outside. The children read the clue, worked out the item and then distinguished between the item and the material it was made from. We will move onto looking at man made and natural materials towards the end of the week. Don't forget wellies for Outdoor Learning on Friday - it's quite muddy in the planny and we don't want lovely trainers being caped in mud. We will continue to provide waterproofs but children are more than welcome to bring in their own.
