This week in Hereford Class

This week in Hereford Class we are starting a new Immersion Curriculum Topic. We will be studying World War 1. We will be looking at the reasons that The Great War started and the different allies involved. We will order key events on a timeline using our understanding of chronology and number. We will also be looking at artefacts from the war and explore what they are. We will delve into the concepts of war and peace and go on to study The Christmas Truce.

In English we are planning our own non-chronological reports. We will be using the structure that we have learnt, along with our next steps in order to write our own, independently.

In Maths we continue with subtraction. Year 2 are subtracting 2, 2 digit numbers using the written method that they used for addition (only counting back) whilst Year 1 are subtracting within 20 using number lines and then moving onto the use of mental arithmetic and problem solving.

In RE we move onto a unit on Christianity. This week we will be learning about Jesus and why he is important to Christians. We will be looking at the 5 parts of the Christmas Story: in Nazereth where Gabriel visits Mary; the journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem; in Bethlehem where Jesus is born and placed in a manger; the fields where angels appear and tell the Shepherds and finally, in Bethlehem where the Shepherds visit Jesus.

Please could we ask children to wear jogging bottoms for both PE and Outdoor Learning as the weather gets colder.

I look forward to catching up with you all this week about your children's progress during our parents' evening telephone calls on Tuesday and Wednesday.
