This week in Hereford

This week in Hereford, we continue our Amberley Immersion Curriculum topic of Science - Materials. The overview for this was attached to last week's BLOG and can be found on the Hereford Class Page.

All documents sent home and attached to BLOGS are placed on the class page, so if for any reason you misplace anything, you are able to locate it there.

In English, we continue with our story journey of Peace At Last by Jill Murphy. We will be retelling the story in our own words and will focus on specific next steps to help us improve our writing. We aim to have Year 1 children secure with capital letters and full stops by the end of the term so please begin to encourage sentence writing during their spelling homework to reinforce this.

In Maths we are looking at 3D shapes, recognising them and their properties. The vocabulary we will be using includes: edges, faces and vertices. Please look around the home recognising cubes, cuboids, cylinders, spheres and pyramids (both square based and triangular based) to consolidate this learning.

In RE this week we are exploring Bible stories that make a link with the concept of good news. Our new RE unit includes 'What is the good news that Jesus brings?' This will be explored with our key questions.

Please remember that Thursday 27th April 2023 is a teachers' strike day and therefore Hereford Class will be closed for the day along with Friesian and Belted Galloway. Dexter class remains open.

Clubs start again next week and I will be running and Maths club every Monday from 3.15pm to 4.15pm. All children are welcome. I have emailed some parents whose children would really benefit from this. It will be full of maths games and fun! Other clubs are also available and Mrs Russell has sent these choices home, please sign up and return the slips as soon as possible.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Cow Hunt over the weekend, fingers crossed for dry weather!
