This Week in Dexter Class

This week, in Dexter class, we will be focusing on the importance of the Bible, as a sacred text, to Christians. We will listen to and talk about stories from the Bible and will act out our value linked story, 'The storm on the lake' (Mark 4).

In phonics, we will be learning the digraphs 'ar' 'or' and 'ur' and using this to read and write captions and phrases. In your child's reading folder, you will find a personalised list of high frequency and tricky words, which you child needs to practice reading and spelling. It would be very helpful to their reading development if they can learn to sight read these words.

In maths, we will be learning about measuring and will be comparing the weight of different objects and using the language heavier/ lighter, describing the capacity of different sized bottles using full, nearly full, nearly empty and empty, and ordering bottles according to their capacity. We will also be measuring capacity when we follow a recipe to make playdough!

In literacy, language and communication, we will be reading the book, 'Farmer Duck' by Martin Waddell. We will be ordering the story and retelling it, discussing the jobs that the poor duck has to undertake and the emotions that he feels as the story progresses.

We will also be watching a short film which has been made for us by Mrs Crampton's niece and nephew, who live in Amberley, New Zealand. We will put it on Tapestry so that the children can share it with you at home, and come up with ideas of things to include in the video we intend to make for them in return.

We hope to welly walk on Wednesday morning.
