This Week in Dexter Class
This week in Dexter class, we will be looking at the Bible story of Noah's ark. We will be using it as a starting point in maths, to recognise similarities and differences, match, compare and sort. We will also be using the story in our English work, as we learn to retell the story using story maps.
In RE, we are learning about the Christian festival of Harvest and have already explored a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, many of which we were not familiar with (It was decided that the passion fruit smelled nice, but didn't look it!) We have used vegetables to create models of the animals on the ark and showed great perseverance with a rather fiddly activity!
We have started our phonics programme this week, and will be sending home a letter to explain how you can support your child's learning at home. At the end of the week, we will be sending home phonics pots and the children's first reading books. These are picture books which encourage children to talk about what they think is happening in the images. It won't be long before the children have been introduced to the first set of sounds and will be bringing home books which support the blending of these sounds to form simple words. The whole class have shown great excitement at the prospect of learning to read and write!
