This week in Dexter class

Welcome back, I hope everyone had a chance to relax and recharge over the holiday. Our focus this term is 'Once upon a time...' and we will be learning about traditional stories, including those from the Bible, fables, rhymes and poems. We will use these as the basis for much of our work in literacy and mathematics as well as for our other areas of learning. This week our traditional story will be 'The Gingerbread Man'. This well known story will give us many opportunities for learning including: recipe/instructional writing, exploring shape, space and measure, looking at weighing and measuring (we will be baking gingerbread), being creative with our own designs for gingerbread people (made out of salt dough so not edible!) and in addition, we will be retelling and sequencing the story, having a go at writing captions and short sentences and also making character masks.

Our Christian value this term is forgiveness which we will be exploring over the coming weeks throughout the school day and during our RE and Worship. We will be looking at traditional stories including the Parable of the Lost Sheep.

As the weather (hopefully) is a little kinder we hope to have a scavenger hunt based on the 'Go Find....' game introduced to me by one of the Dexter children which will help us to recognise shape and pattern in the environment.
