This week in Dexter Class

We had a lovely time last week baking our treats and making cards for Mother's Day and I hope you all had a bit of time to relax and enjoy yourselves this weekend. I will put the recipe on Tapestry as I have had a couple of parents ask for it.

We are continuing our work in literacy this week by writing the beginning, middle and end of the Traditional Tale, Jack and the Beanstalk. Children will be encouraged to work with me to model sentences and then write their own using their phonics knowledge. Last week we completed reading comprehension work and later this week children will apply everything they have learnt in order to sequence the story by reading sentences from the story.

In Maths, we continue to work on our rapid recall of number bonds but we are also focusing on 3D shapes, learning about their properties and also looking at shape patterns. I hope to take the children on a walk around the village to look at how 3D shapes can be found all around us.

In phonics we will continue with Phase 4 and be looking at spelling CVCC words and HFW, holding and writing a sentence using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

I have brought in some beans and we will be planting these inside along with our chitting potatoes and our avocado stone. We will be talking about the growth cycle and what plants need to grow. The children will be ordering and writing instructions to tell others how to grow a beanstalk.

I am really looking forward to seeing you on Thursday to talk about your children's progress. Please do feel free to ask any questions. Appointments are limited to 10 minutes but you are welcome to come and look at their books in the hall before your appointment.
