This Week in Dexter Class

Welcome back!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed the festivities.

The children have come back to school with such positivity towards the next steps in their learning.

This week, we will be looking at the ng and nk digraphs in Mrs L Smith and Mrs Crampton's phonics group and ee, ai and oa in Mrs A Smith and Mrs Lury's group. All the children will be recapping on the many sounds that they have already learned and will be paying particular attention to the sounds th, ch, sh and qu, which often cause confusion. In maths, we will be beginning to look at subtraction and the children will be using objects to help solve subtraction problems.

We have already had some interesting information on why teeth fall out, thanks to one of the children bringing in a 'fallen' tooth, and will use this as a starting point to learn more about dentists and hospitals, and the many people who help us there. We will also be looking at how we can keep ourselves healthy and safe.

This term we will be learning the story 'Handa's Surprise' by Eileen Browne, which we will use as a springboard for finding out about life in Kenya.

Thank you for your continued support. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries.
