This week in Hereford Class

This week in Hereford class, we finish off our story journey of 'Not Now Bernard' by John McKee. We will be innovating the story, thinking of our own characters and story lines, showing off everything that we have been taught about the structure, punctuation and grammar.

In Maths, we continue with place value and Year 1 are using the part-whole model and bar models to represent numbers to 20. Year 2 are using fact families, recognising the patterns with bonds to 10, 20 and 100. It would really benefit children to play 'Hit the Button' over the half term break, looking at bonds, doubles and halves. This is something we are working hard on at school, in order to recall them rapidly, without the use of fingers or any other apparatus.

In our Amberley Immersion Curriculum we begin a new unit of Art. We will be drawing using many skills built up over the week to produce a final piece of art work. Our celebration will be photocopying our art to bring it home to show our families. Please find the overview on our class page for more information about the skills taught and how you can support at home.

In RE, we finish the term by reflecting on our learning of the Creation Story and our Christian Value of 'Perseverance'. If you have any examples of when your children have persevered at home, please let me know so that we can take time to celebrate it.

This week you will receive a letter with the opportunity to order a Christmas card, calendar, mug etc. designed by your children (I know it's early!) This gives the FOA plenty of time to organise, get them sent off and ensure delivery in time for the Christmas season. Please, if you wish to order some, send back the form by Friday. It stipulates on the form that late forms will not be accepted. To avoid disappointment, please do bring it back no later than Friday. I aim to get these to you by the end of the day Tuesday so that you have 3 evenings to organise.

I hope that you have a fantastic half term break - it has been a long 8 week term and the children have had a fantastic first term in Hereford. See you on Tuesday 7th November 2023 as Monday is an INSET day.
