This Week in Dexter Class

This week, we will be learning all about the Muslim aqiqah ceremony and looking at the similarities and differences between this and Christian baptism, in our RE lesson. We will think about the first words we would like a baby to hear when it comes into the world and will talk about what it means to be welcomed.

In phonics, we will be learning the sounds h, b, f and ff and learning the tricky and high frequency words, big, but, back, if and off. The children will continue to practice their letter formation and will use the sounds they have already learned to read and write words.

In maths, we will be looking at comparisons in quantity, size, length and height. We will be measuring using non standard units (ie not in cm, but seeing how many blocks match the length of an object etc) and comparing to see which is longer/ shorter/ wider/ taller, and therefor using comparative and superlative language.

In literacy, language and communication, we will be reading 'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas. We will discuss the different emotions encountered in the book and will build our ability to talk about how we feel, and our understanding of how our emotions can affect those around us, as well as looking at the structure of the story.

Harvest festival will be held in church on Sunday 9th October, at 9am. We hope that you will be able to join us.
