This Week in Friesian Class

This week, we will be Geographers in our Amberley Immersion Curriculum sessions. We will be learning about maps and locating counties, cities and geographical regions of the United Kingdom, before focusing on the physical and human geography of Gloucestershire, and how it has changed over time.

In English, we will be starting a new writing unit on journey stories and will be writing our own version of The Firework Maker's Daughter by Philip Pullman. We will also be launching our next guided reading book, Storm Hound by Claire Fayers, which is set in Wales and revolves around the tale of what happens when one of Odin's storm hounds, from mythology, accidently falls to Earth.

In maths, year 4 will be starting a new learning journey on decimals and year 3 will be focusing on fractions.

In RE, the children will be beginning to think about the Christian festival of Easter, and the themes of forgiveness and salvation that come through the Easter story.

In computing we will be looking at staying safe online by protecting personal information, before start our new unit on programming, where we will be using Scratch to create code for creating sequences in music.

We have been impressed with the improvement in spelling scores by those that have been using the new technique. Please do remember that children still need to write sentences, with particular focus on handwriting, along side learning their spellings. They are welcome to use the grid on the sheet as a daily record of how to spell the words as they test themselves, or as an opportunity to familiarise themselves using Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check at the start of the week.
