This week in Hereford
Well we welcome Year 1 into Hereford Class full time this week. We are excited to begin our Amberley Immersion Curriculum with Science - Seasons. We will be exploring the seasons, the weather associated with them, the apparent movement of the sun as well as day and night and how day length varies. Details of this can be found on the overview on the class page.
In RE, we continue to look at God's creation and what Christians believe God provides. Please discuss the 7 days of the Creation story with your children as well as our focus value of perseverance. Mrs Flight would like to build a 'Perseverance Wall' so if you have any examples of your children persevering at home, please share these.
In Maths, we continue with place value. We are comparing numbers. Year 1 are comparing smaller and larger numbers using the vocabulary more than and less than, whilst Year 2 are introduced to the symbols < > and =.
In English we come to the end of instruction writing. We will be writing instructions in full, one more will be supported and then one completely independently, thinking about the structure and grammar taught.
Hereford Class will all be travelling to Old Ends Lane in Stonehouse on Wednesday to take part in a Football Festival. The PTA have kindly paid for our transport and we will be there from 9.30-11.30, back in time for lunch so children will be eating as normal in school so are still able to order a hot lunch. If you haven't returned the permission slip, please do so ASAP. A copy of the letter can be found on the class page if you need another.
Phonics evening is next week, Wednesday 4th October. Year 1 parents we ask that you attend where possible as it is valuable in helping your children become fluent readers and also, to understand the statutory framework regarding the phonics screening in June 2024.
