This Week in Dexter Class

This week in Dexter class, we will be learning about Christian baptisms in RE and reflecting on how and why people are different in our spirituality session.

In Literacy, we will be focusing on traditional tales, which we will also be linking with our maths work on comparing quantities and measurements. The three bears will be playing a prominent part!

In phonics, we will be developing our knowledge with the introduction of the sounds g, o, c and k, and will be using all the sounds that we have learned so far to blend for reading and segment for spelling. We will also be introducing high frequency words for the children to try and learn to sight read. These are words that are found frequently in the English language and may not be able to be decoded. We are pleased to be able to start sending home reading books with simple words and phrases in them, which have been closely matched to the sounds that the children have been taught, and have been delighted with the children's enthusiasm about reading.

Throughout this week, we will be continuing to learn about Iceland, in line with the rest of the school. The children have been fascinated by the landscapes they have seen, and in particular, the images of glaciers, volcanoes and geysers.

We will be welly walking on Tuesday, so please make sure that your child has a pair of waterproof trousers, wellies and a rain coat in school.
