This week in Dexter class

This week in Dexter class, we are looking at number bonds to 10 continuing our work on addition and subtraction. We will be using practical resources and playing games such as 10 green bottles; building a wall, knocking the bottles off using beanbags, identifying numbers and then working out our number sentence to give us our bonds. Challenges will also include using different shapes and sizes of blocks in groups of 10 to see who can build the tallest and shortest towers. Lolly sticks have been used today with children working together to make their own patterns and designs using only 10 sticks. We will also be counting backwards from 10 to blast off our rockets and looking at what numbers we can combine to make 10 in lots of different ways.

In literacy we will be writing descriptions of our favourite animal and drawing pictures using our observation skills. We will be having a go at making tribal African jewellery using paper plates, pasta and beads amongst other things.

We will be listening to some African traditional music and having a go at setting a poem called the 'Rhythm of Life' by Michael Rosen, to our own music.

During our Wednesday welly walk we will talk about habitats and how these differ in Africa from our country.
