The school council will be holding a cake sale after school on Tuesday 22nd March in order to raise much needed funds for the Ukrainian refugee crisis.
The UN estimates that 12 million people inside Ukraine will need relief and protection, while more than 4 million Ukrainian refugees may need protection and assistance in neighbouring countries in coming months. Most of those fleeing are women and children, the elderly and the sick. Most are leaving with the few possessions they can carry. Those left behind face an uncertain future. People are living with no food, no water, no heat, no electricity. They need urgent respite from violence and humanitarian assistance.
As a school community we value our ability to have any positive impact on the wider world. Despite the heart wrenching stories and distressing pictures coming out of Ukraine, there are practical ways in which we can all help to show solidarity and support with those most affected.
Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) charities and their local partners are in Ukraine, and in neighbouring countries, providing food, water, shelter and medical assistance. All monies collected by the cake sale will be donated to the DEC so that essential support and supplies can be provided where they are needed most.
Any donations of cakes would be gratefully received, and we would ask that they are given to school by Tuesday morning at the latest.
Please help us in our aim to be agents of change for our wider world community and come along and sample a cake at the end of school on Tuesday!
Thank you for your support,
The Amberley Parochial Primary School Council
