What an experience! Hereford Class had a day at a Victorian school on Thursday whereby they experienced school life in the Victorian days, which is very different to our school for many reasons! The mistress was very strict, she did not smile or care much about us! We had to line up in straight lines, we weren't allowed to talk, we had to wipe our feet before entering after having a hand and show inspection and the boys had to wear a cap, removing it when going inside. We had many experiences (boys and girls seperately) where the the boys made candles and the girls made lavender bags. All children experienced an English and maths lesson where they wrote on a slate board, practising very boring letters, using ink and a nib pen as well as learning about the money and adding. We experienced the types of food the children would eat within the school day, which our parents very kindly packed for us. We weren't allowed any plastic! Just authentic food and water.
In the afternoon we got to play recreational games. (Girls and boys had to play separately!)
I am sure that the children have all filled you in on their experience (some scary!)
Well done to all of the children for being so brave and for taking the experience in their stride, even when at times, it was a little scary! You have five members of staff incredibly proud of you!
PS - Parents, we have hundreds of photos, which I will sort and place in the children's books.
